Hesse Police Crack Down on Violent Crime in Massive Statewide Operation
Hesse police have carried out a large-scale operation targeting violent crime and knife attacks. Over 2,000 people were checked across the state as part of the Security Action Day. The crackdown resulted in dozens of arrests and the seizure of weapons. The operation was coordinated by the Hesse State Criminal Police Office (HLKA) and involved all seven police precincts in the region. Officers focused on public areas where violent incidents and knife-related crimes had been reported. During the checks, 21 knives were confiscated, and 258 criminal complaints were filed.
37 individuals were arrested, and 11 arrest warrants were executed. Authorities also recorded 400 regulatory offences. The effort comes as new crime statistics reveal a mixed picture for Hesse in 2025. While overall crime dropped by 2.9 percent last year, violent offences rose sharply. Assaults reached 40,237 cases—a 26.7 percent increase since 2019. Violent crime alone climbed by 5.3 percent compared to 2024. However, knife attacks in public spaces fell by 18.8 percent over the same period. Interior Minister Roman Poseck highlighted the progress in reducing knife-related incidents. He also acknowledged the ongoing challenge of rising violent crime across the state.
The Security Action Day aimed to curb aggression and prevent knife attacks in Hesse’s public areas. With arrests made and weapons seized, police have taken steps to address the issue. Yet the rise in violent crime suggests further measures may be needed in the coming year.
