Luhrmann Sees Positive Green Trend Reversal in Hesse's Elections - Hesse's Greens show early election rebound after 2021 slump
Hesse's Green Party has seen early signs of recovery in Sunday's local elections. The vote covered district councils, city parliaments, and mayoral races across the state. Co-leader Anna Lührmann described the initial trends as encouraging for her party.
The Greens faced a setback in Hesse during the 2021 federal election, securing just 12.6% of the vote. Three years later, early results suggest a possible rebound in the 2024 local elections. Lührmann pointed to recent victories in neighbouring Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria as a source of momentum.
In the last local elections in 2021, the Greens won 18.4% of the vote statewide. While detailed city-level figures for 2024—such as results in Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, or Kassel—are not yet available, Lührmann expressed cautious optimism about the overall trend. Sunday's ballot included races for district councils, municipal parliaments, local advisory boards, and foreign residents' councils. The Greens had campaigned heavily on local issues, aiming to regain ground lost in previous years.
The party now awaits final results to confirm whether the early positive shift holds. If sustained, the gains could mark a turnaround after the 2021 dip. Lührmann's comments suggest confidence in the Greens' renewed appeal among Hessian voters.
