Hesse's New Award Pushes Businesses to Embrace Greener Commuting by Bike and Foot

A new award is encouraging businesses in Hesse to promote greener commuting options. The active2work Award 2026 will recognise companies that actively support cycling and walking for work-related travel. Organisers hope the initiative will push firms to adopt more sustainable transport habits among employees.

The competition is open to all privately owned companies with a location in Hesse. Applications will be accepted from January 27 to March 13, 2026, through the online portal at www.active2work.de. The award is organised by the Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing, and Rural Development as part of its active2work state initiative.

Kaweh Mansoori, Hesse's Minister for Economic Affairs and Transport, has highlighted the need for a shift in mobility culture. He stressed that fostering a sustainable mindset in daily commuting can lead to long-term benefits for both businesses and the environment. Winners will be chosen by a high-profile jury. The awards ceremony is scheduled for June 24, 2026, at the Hesse pavilion during EUROBIKE in Frankfurt.

The active2work Award aims to reward companies that prioritise eco-friendly travel solutions. Successful applicants will gain recognition for their efforts in reducing carbon emissions through cycling and walking. The initiative also seeks to inspire other businesses in the region to follow suit.
