Hesse’s New Initiative Puts Police and Teens in Direct Dialogue

A new initiative called Cops in Dialogue has launched in Southern Hesse to bridge the gap between police and young people. The first event took place at Starkenburg Grammar School in Heppenheim, drawing around 100 tenth-grade students. Organisers hope the series will improve understanding and reduce tensions between officers and the community.

The programme was introduced by the Südhessische Polizeidirektion under Kriminaldirektor Benjamin Henne. It forms part of the Hessian state government’s Respect Package, a wider effort to tackle violence against emergency workers.

The Cops in Dialogue series will continue with further sessions planned across the region. The initiative seeks to build trust and encourage respect between young people and law enforcement. Future events will follow a similar format, focusing on open discussions and firsthand accounts from officers.
