High-speed chase in Jackson ends with overturned car and arrests
A high-speed chase in Jackson, Mississippi, ended in an overturned vehicle and property damage on March 14, 2026. Capitol police pursued a driver who failed to stop for traffic violations near Sunset Drive, sparking concerns over law enforcement coordination in the city.
The incident began when officers tried to pull over a vehicle for traffic offences. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, leading police on a chase that ended at Eubanks Creek. There, the car flipped over, leaving damage to nearby residential yards.
Four people were in the vehicle at the time. One fled the scene on foot, while the other three were taken into custody. Charges against them are still being determined. The chase has raised questions about policing in Jackson. Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes later asked whether the city needs two separate police departments, given the confusion over their roles and jurisdictions during the incident.
The crash left yards damaged, and three suspects remain in custody. Authorities have not yet clarified which police department led the pursuit or how responsibilities were divided. The incident has prompted calls for a review of law enforcement operations in the capital.
