High-speed chase on K 29 ends with driver vanishing into village
A dangerous high-speed chase unfolded on the K 29 near Transvaal after police spotted a black Volkswagen Passat driving at 166 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a reckless pursuit before disappearing in a nearby village. Authorities are now investigating possible illegal street racing and searching for witnesses.
The incident began when officers clocked the Passat travelling at more than double the speed limit. As they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver ignored all signals and accelerated away. During the chase, the motorist allegedly overtook two cars at high speed near the entrance to Knesebeck.
Police eventually lost sight of the fleeing car in the next village. Wittingen police have since launched an inquiry into illegal street racing in the area. They are urging anyone who witnessed the dangerous driving—or who may have been endangered by it—to come forward, particularly the drivers of the overtaken vehicles.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police gathering evidence and appealing for public assistance. Anyone with information about the incident or the driver's identity is asked to contact Wittingen authorities. The case highlights concerns over speeding and reckless driving on local roads.
