Hilo’s Veterans Day Parade Honors Heroes and Strengthens Community Bonds

The 18th Annual Hawaii Island Veterans Day Parade is set to take place this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in downtown Hilo. The parade aims to honour the past and inspire future generations, fostering unity within the island community.

The parade route begins at the intersection of Piopio Street and Pauahi Street, ending back at Piopio Street. It will feature military units, local dignitaries, business and community floats, bands, and Taishoji Taiko performances. Free transportation is provided for veterans and kupuna to ensure accessibility to the event.

Sgt. Jerry Chang, who served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970, will lead the parade as the grand marshal. He is honoured for his lifetime of service. Ken's House of Pancakes and Vibrant Hawaii are recognised as the business and community parade marshals respectively, for their outstanding contributions to the community.

The parade is an opportunity to celebrate and honour the sacrifices made by veterans and their families. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and community support. Everyone is encouraged to line the streets and cheer on the participants.
