Himachal Pradesh erupts in protest against controversial labour codes
Thousands of protesters gathered in Shimla as part of widespread demonstrations across Himachal Pradesh. Trade unions, farmers, and apple growers united to demand the withdrawal of the central government’s four labour codes. Slogans against the administration filled the streets during the massive rally.
The protests were led by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), with state president Vijender Mehra at the forefront. He condemned the labour codes as anti-worker and pro-corporate, warning they would erode democratic rights. According to Mehra, the new rules threaten wages, social security, and workplace safety for millions.
The protests have put pressure on authorities to address long-standing grievances over wages, job security, and agricultural support. With demands clearly outlined, organisers now await a response from the central government. The outcome could shape labour policies and farming conditions in Himachal Pradesh for years to come.
