His Appeal Becomes the Motto of a Competition - His Appeal Becomes the Motto of a Competition
The 2026 History Award has revealed its new motto: Be Human! The phrase comes from a speech by Marcel Reif, who now serves as patron of the competition. Organisers have also extended key deadlines and announced new jury members for the upcoming edition.
The motto Be Human! was first spoken by Marcel Reif on January 31, 2024, during a Bundestag memorial for victims of National Socialism. He described the message as deeply personal and one that resonates widely. This year, Reif takes on the role of patron for the 14th edition of the History Award, a video competition run by the History Channel.
Influencer Melina Hoischen, known online as *Miss History*, will join Reif as co-patron. The competition, open to students of all ages, allows entries filmed with any type of camera. Participants now have until January 31, 2026, to register, while film submissions must be completed by March 1, 2026. The History Award has been held annually since 2005, with a new theme each year. For 2026, the jury includes actress Nina Eichinger, who joins other panel members in selecting the winning entries.
The extended registration period gives students more time to prepare their films. With Reif and Hoischen as patrons, the 2026 edition aims to inspire young filmmakers under the Be Human! theme. Winners will be chosen by a jury that now features both established figures and fresh voices.
