Airbus Transport in Zoo Starts End of October - Historic Airbus to Be Transported to Serengeti Park for Unique Restaurant

An old Airbus from the German military, the Bundeswehr, is set to be transported from Hannover Airport to Serengeti Park in Südheide at the end of October. The aircraft, originally planned for conversion into a restaurant, will be moved over three nights to minimize disruption to the public.

The Airbus, named after 'Kurt Schumacher', was initially scheduled for transport in the summer of 2022 but faced delays. It will pass through a protected area for about 1.8 kilometers during the journey. The transport will take place between October 26th and 30th, with the Airbus being lowered from 6.80 meters to 5.90 meters to prevent damage to trees in a landscape protection area. The 'reverse rigging' method will be used to tie up tree branches and ensure safety.

The Airbus will be transported during night hours, from 22:00 to 6:00, to minimize disruption to local residents and traffic. The detached wings and vertical stabilizer of the Airbus have already been brought into the park. Serengeti Park bought the Airbus with the intention of converting it into a restaurant with about 200 seats, featuring 150 indoor seats and the rest on the wings outdoors.

The transport of the Airbus is expected to be completed by the end of October, with the aircraft set to become a unique dining experience at Serengeti Park. While there are no specific plans known as of 2023 to convert the Airbus into a restaurant, the park's purchase suggests that such plans are in the works.
