Historic Plauer Bridge Restoration Completed, Reopening Imminent
The historic Plauer Bridge has undergone a significant restoration, with the completion of its elegant Jugendstil railing in October 2025. The bridge, a beloved landmark, is expected to reopen for pedestrians and cyclists by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
The restoration process, supported by a local family, has seen the replacement of 11 parts of the railing at an average cost of 8,000 euros each. The city of Brandenburg contributed 3 million euros for rust removal, rivet replacement, and corrosion protection. The Independent Citizens' Association Plaue e. V. and local mayor Udo Geiseler thanked generous donors who were honored with framed certificates featuring a stylized bridge and their donation amounts. The outer decorative railings' restoration will continue after the path renewal, with another 1 million euros allocated for this purpose.
The Plauer Bridge's restoration is nearing completion, with the bridge expected to reopen for public use in the coming months. The project's success is a testament to the community's support and the city's commitment to preserving its historic landmarks.
