Teen Injured: Driver Flees After Crash - Hit-and-run leaves one teen critically injured after e-scooter crash in Murr
Two 14-year-olds on an e-scooter were hit by a car in Murr after failing to stop at an intersection. The crash left one teen seriously hurt and the other with minor injuries. The driver of the car then left the scene without stopping.
The accident happened when the two teenagers rode through an intersection without yielding. Their e-scooter was struck by an oncoming car, causing both to be thrown from the vehicle. Emergency services arrived quickly, but the car driver had already fled.
E-scooter accidents have risen sharply in North Rhine-Westphalia this year. Official figures for 2025 show nearly 3,900 incidents, a 50% increase from the previous year. Five of those crashes resulted in deaths, though it remains unclear how many involved drivers swerving or failing to yield.
Police are now searching for the driver who left the scene. The injured teens were taken to hospital, with one in serious condition. Authorities continue to monitor e-scooter safety as accidents involving them grow more frequent.
