Holocaust Survivor Dr. Eva Umlauf Honored in Wolfsburg’s Golden Book
Wolfsburg has honoured Dr. Eva Umlauf, one of the last living witnesses of the Holocaust, by inviting her to sign the city’s Golden Book. The ceremony took place during an event marking 80 years of co-determination at Volkswagen. Umlauf, a survivor of Auschwitz and the current president of the International Auschwitz Committee, was recognised for her lifelong commitment to remembrance and education.
Dr. Eva Umlauf was born in 1942 in the Nováky labour camp in Slovakia. At just two years old, she was deported to Auschwitz, where she survived the horrors of the Holocaust. Decades later, she became a physician and psychotherapist, dedicating her life to preserving the memory of those who perished.
Wolfsburg’s decision to honour Umlauf highlights her enduring impact as a witness and educator. The Golden Book entry serves as a permanent recognition of her work in promoting humanity and historical awareness. Her story continues to inspire efforts to combat hatred and preserve the truth of the Holocaust.
