Homemade bomb damages Düsseldorf apartment building in early-morning blast
A loud explosion shook a residential building in Düsseldorf early on Wednesday morning. The blast, caused by a homemade explosive device, damaged the entrance of a multi-storey apartment building on Reuterstraße. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The explosion occurred just before 3 a.m., waking a 49-year-old resident in a ground-floor apartment. Upon inspecting the property, the tenant found a window in another room shattered and the roller shutter outside severely damaged.
Authorities confirmed the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device placed at the building’s entrance. The Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the incident, treating it as a case of causing a detonation with explosive materials. The perpetrator remains unknown.
Specialist bomb disposal teams are examining the scene to gather further evidence. Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a window in a Berlin-Neukölln apartment was shattered by an ignited pyrotechnic device in the early hours of the same morning.
The investigation into the Düsseldorf explosion is ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. Repairs to the damaged apartment building will be needed before residents can fully return to normal. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this stage.
