Horb am Neckar to Vote on Wind Power in City-Owned Forests by 2025
The city council of Horb am Neckar has approved a citizens' decision, set to take place on November 30, 2025. The vote will determine whether municipal forest areas can be used for wind power plants. The new mayor, Michael Kessler, will oversee this process.
The proposal, put forward by the city administration in July, was agreed upon with one abstention. The estimated cost for conducting the decision is 55,000 euros, which will be financed exceptionally as it's not included in the 2025 budget.
An information event will be held on October 16, moderated by the Forum Energiedialog, to prepare citizens for the vote. The forum will also create an information brochure and aim to keep discussions neutral.
The question on the ballot will be: 'Should forest areas owned by the city of Horb am Neckar be made available for use by wind power plants?'
This is the second attempt at a citizens' decision. The first one failed in April due to insufficient signatures. This time, however, a total of 2,433 signatures were submitted, with at least 1,500 found to be valid, meeting the required majority for a citizen initiative.
The citizens of Horb am Neckar will have their say on November 30, 2025, with the new mayor, Michael Kessler, taking office on November 1 and overseeing the process. The decision could significantly impact the city's approach to renewable energy.
