House approves $900B defense bill with Ukraine aid and troop raises
The US House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the next fiscal year. The bill, introduced by Representative Mike Rogers, received broad bipartisan backing before its approval on Thursday. It now heads to the Senate for final consideration.
The NDAA authorises nearly $900 billion for military programmes. Included in the funding is a 3.8% pay increase for service members. The legislation also allocates $800 million in security assistance for Ukraine over two years under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
With the House’s approval, the NDAA now awaits a Senate vote. If passed, it will set military spending, repeal outdated authorisations, and direct funds to allies in Eastern Europe. The final version will determine how these measures take effect in the next fiscal year.
