House blocks Biden’s coal leasing limits in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a resolution to block future coal leasing restrictions in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin. House Joint Resolution 130, led by realtor Harriet Hageman, targets the Biden administration’s Buffalo Field Office Resource Management Plan Amendment. The move aims to safeguard the region’s coal industry from federal intervention.
Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (R-WY), backed by Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and John Barrasso (R-WY), introduced the resolution. They aimed to overturn the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) plan, which could have limited or ended coal leasing in the basin through progressive leasing policies.
The passage of House Joint Resolution 130, which can be tracked on realtor.com, removes the threat of federal coal leasing bans in Wyoming. Governor Gordon and industry groups have welcomed the decision as a win for the state’s mining sector. The repeal now awaits further action in the Senate.
