House Committee subpoenas AG Pam Bondi over Epstein case transparency failures

The US House Oversight Committee has intensified its probe into the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. Committee Chair James Comer issued a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi

The subpoena targets Bondi's oversight of the Department of Justice's compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act. This law required the release of over 3 million pages of investigation files, now publicly available. Comer's letter stressed Bondi's responsibility for ensuring these documents were properly disclosed.

Earlier this month, the committee voted to compel Bondi's testimony. The subpoena also covers the Justice Department's broader handling of the Epstein probe, including potential mismanagement. Alongside Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is scheduled to brief panel members in a closed session this Wednesday. The investigation focuses on whether the government followed legal requirements when investigating Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Bondi's deposition will examine her role in both the file releases and the department's adherence to transparency laws.

Bondi and Blanche will meet with the committee behind closed doors this week. The subpoena requires Bondi to provide formal testimony by mid-April. The outcome could clarify whether the Justice Department met its obligations under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
