House Democrats Blocked from COP30 as GOP Resists Climate Collaboration
House Democrats' plans to attend the COP30 climate talks hit a roadblock, as they failed to secure bipartisan support for a delegation. The trip's cancellation left the USA without a federal elected presence at the event.
The inability to form a bipartisan delegation was attributed to Republicans' resistance to climate collaboration, according to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She stated that Republicans had 'always resisted' such efforts.
The USA's absence of an official delegation was partly due to the Trump administration closing its climate diplomacy office. Instead, the USA was represented unofficially by California Governor Gavin Newsom at the COP30 talks.
A group of eight House Democrats, led by Pelosi, blamed Republicans for the inability to attend COP30. The absence of a federal elected presence from the USA at the climate talks highlights the ongoing political divide over climate action.
