House overwhelmingly condemns socialism in rare bipartisan vote

The US House of Representatives has overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning socialism. The vote, held on the same day New York City's democratic party mayor-elect met with President Trump, saw bipartisan support with 86 democrats joining republicans. The final tally stood at 285 in favour and 98 against.

The resolution, labelled H.Con.Res.58, declared socialism responsible for famine, mass killings, and over 100 million deaths globally. It specifically cited regimes in North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela as examples of its failures. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was among the 86 democrats backing the measure.

The resolution's passage marks a rare moment of bipartisan agreement in a polarised Congress. With 285 votes, it signals broad opposition to socialist policies among lawmakers. However, the mixed public response suggests the debate over socialism's role in America is far from settled.
