How Digitalization and Green Transition Can Empower Africa’s MSMEs to Cross Borders
A panel discussion held at the 25th East African Community MSMEs Trade Fair Ministerial Round Table explored how micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) can benefit from digitalisation and the green transition. The event, initiated by Professor Dr. Dr., aimed to enhance efficiency, expand revenues, and build resilience in MSMEs, enabling them to scale across borders.
Mercy Wanjau, a key speaker, stressed the importance of regional integration as a shared pathway to collective prosperity. Kenya, reaffirming its commitment to this cause, joined other EAC partner states and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat in supporting the initiative. Wanjau, drawing from her experience in digitising government services, suggested that similar technological transformations could empower MSMEs to strengthen operations and seize new growth opportunities.
The roundtable also included representatives from the United Nations, further demonstrating the broad support for this digital and green transition agenda.
The panel discussion highlighted the potential of digitalisation and the green transition to boost MSMEs' efficiency and revenues, making them more resilient and capable of scaling across borders. With regional integration as a shared goal, Kenya and other EAC partner states, along with international organisations, are committed to supporting this transformative process.
