How Germany and Poland Strengthen Ties Through Cross-Border Leadership
Germany and Poland, bound by NATO and EU membership, historical ties, and robust economic exchange, have always maintained close relations. This is further bolstered by civil society activities, youth encounters, and partnerships between municipalities and regions. The role of Coordinator for German-Polish Cross-Societal and Cross-Border Cooperation has been pivotal in fostering these ties since its establishment in 2004.
The current coordinator, Katja Adler, follows in the footsteps of notable predecessors such as Prof. Gesine Schwan, Cornelia Pieper, Dietmar Woidke, and Dietmar Nietan. Knut Abraham, a member of the German Bundestag serving on the Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Committees, is also a prominent figure in this role. Before 2018, Abraham led the division for bilateral relations with Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe at the Federal Chancellery.
The Coordinator's role is crucial in maintaining the strong bond between Germany and Poland. With Katja Adler at the helm, both nations can look forward to continued growth in their relations, driven by shared values and mutual interests.
