HSBC Warns Business Banking Customers of Data Breach Involving ID Documents

HSBC has alerted its business banking customers to a data breach involving personal identification docs submitted during account applications. The bank has set up a helpline to assist affected customers until 8 October 2025.

The breach exposed identity docs, images, and contact details provided to a third-party platform used for account applications. Although HSBC found no evidence of fraudulent activity, it urges customers to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts. Affected customers are offered a complimentary 12-month subscription to Experian's Identity Plus service for monitoring personal information.

The incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of customer information in the hands of external providers. HSBC worked with external specialists to investigate the incident and prevent further unauthorized access. The bank's own systems were unaffected, and passwords, PIN codes, and biometric security remained uncompromised.
