Aiwanger remains Free Voter boss - "very satisfied" - Hubert Aiwanger Re-elected as FW Chairman with 82.3% of Votes
Hubert Aiwanger, Bavaria's deputy minister-president and economics minister, has been reelected as chairman of the Free Voters (FW) party with a substantial majority. Despite a slight dip in support, Aiwanger expressed satisfaction with the result and confidence in the party's future.
Aiwanger secured 82.3% of delegate votes, a decrease from previous elections. However, he chose to focus on the broad approval rather than the minority of critics. The party also elected Hans Martin Grötsch as the new secretary-general, replacing Susann Enders who did not seek reelection. This change was announced at the state party conference in Straubing on October 25, 2025.
In his speech, Aiwanger criticized excessive bureaucracy, stating that it hinders progress and productivity. He also took aim at Germany's climate policies, accusing the political mainstream of blindly following Greta Thunberg's lead. Aiwanger stressed that his party supports environmental and animal protection but warned against policies that 'destroy industry'.
Hubert Aiwanger's reelection as chairman of the Free Voters in Bavaria signals continuity for the party. Despite a minor decrease in support, Aiwanger remains optimistic about the party's prospects. The election of Hans Martin Grötsch as the new secretary-general also indicates a shift in the party's leadership.
