Hundreds unite in Schneverdingen to defend democracy ahead of federal election

Hundreds of residents in Schneverdingen gathered on Sunday evening, holding phones, candles, and lanterns, to express their support for diversity, solidarity, and humanity. The vigil, titled 'Schneverdingen stays bright', marked the beginning of further actions in the Heidekreis region, just a week before the federal election.

The event saw a large turnout, with around 400 people attending. Among them were many private individuals, associations, and political parties, all united in their commitment to democracy and unity. Mayor Meike Moog-Steffens addressed the crowd, expressing pride in the community's unity and commitment to these democratic values. She highlighted the importance of diversity, warning about the dangers of racism to the open society and future prosperity.

Lisa Hundertmark, another speaker, emphasized the crucial role of civil society in protecting minorities and fighting indifference. She wished for continued hope and belief in a better, united future. The vigil was not just a show of solidarity but also a precursor to a demonstration for democracy and unity that will take place in Münster the day before the election.

The 'Schneverdingen stays bright' vigil was a powerful display of the community's commitment to diversity, democracy, and unity. With the federal election approaching, these community values are more important than ever. The event served as a reminder of the need for active engagement in local democracy and a warning against the pressures facing democracies worldwide.
