Hünfeld's mayor outlines roadworks, solar energy and childcare expansions
Hünfeld's mayor, Benjamin Tschesnok, shared updates on key city projects at a recent town hall meeting. Topics included roadworks, childcare expansions, winter maintenance efforts, and new solar energy plans. Residents also heard about upcoming steps for municipal heating and housing developments.
Winter brought heavy snowfall to Hünfeld, forcing the city to act quickly. Crews spread 280 tons of grit and worked 1,390 hours to keep roads clear. Priority went to hospital access routes and bus lines first, with main roads next and residential streets last. Mayor Tschesnok asked residents to help by shoveling snow themselves where possible, citing limited resources.
Road construction will continue until 2026/27. Planned projects include a new bicycle crossing, roundabouts, and infrastructure for fresh housing developments. The Molzbacher Höhe area is also being prepared for market release.
Childcare services are expanding after a €13 million investment. Modernisation of the St. Laurentius daycare centre begins this summer, increasing capacity for local families.
On energy, the city is pushing ahead with solar power. Plans include parking canopies with solar panels, a large photovoltaic plant, and land secured for ground-mounted arrays. For heating, next steps involve energy consulting services, a feasibility study for district heating, and support for energy cooperatives.
The updates reflect Hünfeld's focus on infrastructure, sustainability, and community services. Roadworks, childcare upgrades, and renewable energy projects will shape the city's development over the next few years. Residents can expect ongoing changes as these initiatives move forward.
