Hungarian FM Szijjarto to Discuss US Russia Sanctions with Trump
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó has responded to US Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker's statement regarding US sanctions on the Russian energy sector. Szijjártó plans to discuss these sanctions personally with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
Szijjártó praised US President Donald Trump's efforts in resolving international conflicts. He highlighted Trump's peace initiatives in Ukraine and the Middle East, expressing Hungary's support for these endeavours. Szijjártó mentioned the Budapest Peace Summit, where Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met, as a significant step towards diplomatic resolution.
Regarding the US sanctions, Szijjártó clarified that they have not yet impacted Hungary's energy imports from Russia. He acknowledged the existence of serious security challenges, such as the crises in Ukraine and the Middle East, but emphasized the need for careful consideration of their effects on global energy supplies.
