Hürth shuts down public services for Christmas and New Year’s break

Need urgent help during the holidays? Hürth’s shutdown leaves only a narrow window for emergencies—plan ahead or risk delays. Libraries, pools, and daycares won’t reopen until early January.

Hürth shuts down public services for Christmas and New Year’s break

Hürth Town Hall and most public facilities will close for the Christmas and New Year’s break from December 24, 2025, to January 2, 2026. Limited emergency services will remain available on select days, but residents must book appointments in advance for urgent matters.

From December 24, 2025, through January 2, 2026, Hürth Town Hall and nearly all municipal services will shut down. This includes the Public Order Office, Social Welfare Office, and other key departments. The only exception is a small window for emergency services on December 29 and 30, 2025, and January 2, 2026, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

The Hürth Public Library will also close from December 24 to January 5, though e-media loans and returns will still be accessible online. Meanwhile, the Bonnstraße Youth Center in Hermülheim and the Port@l community center in Efferen will remain shut until January 8 and January 6, 2026, respectively.

De Bütt Family Pool will have limited access, closing entirely on December 24–26, December 31, and January 1. It will open briefly on December 22, December 29, and January 5. Municipal daycare centres and public all-day schools will reopen on January 5 after the break.

For death registrations, the Registry Office will offer emergency services on December 29 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Nearby facilities, such as the Mauritius Hotel and Therme in Köln-Mauritiusstein, will operate with reduced hours during the holiday period.

Residents needing urgent assistance must call ahead to secure an appointment for emergency services. With most public buildings closed, alternative arrangements—like online library access—will remain available. The town’s facilities will gradually reopen in early January 2026.
