HVV raises fares again in 2026 as inflation pressures persist
Ticket prices in the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV) network will rise again from January 1, 2026. The increase follows a similar adjustment earlier in the year, driven by inflation and higher operational costs. Over a million passengers in the region currently rely on the Deutschlandticket for most of their journeys.
The HVV, which covers Hamburg and parts of Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony, announced the fare changes this week. Single and day tickets will go up by an average of 5.4 percent. This follows a 5.2 percent increase introduced earlier in 2025, also linked to rising inflation, energy, and staffing expenses.
The price adjustments take effect on January 1, 2026, affecting most HVV tickets except short trips and children’s fares. The Deutschlandticket’s new monthly cost reflects ongoing efforts to balance affordability with rising operational demands.
