ICE Demands Illinois Turn Over 4,000 Criminal Illegal Immigrants Amid Crime Surge
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is pressing Illinois to hand over thousands of criminal illegal immigrants currently in state custody. Director Todd Lyons has highlighted a surge in serious crimes linked to individuals previously detained by ICE, including 51 homicides, 1,134 assaults, and 813 sexual predatory offences.
In September, ICE sent a formal letter to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office. The agency requested the transfer of over 4,000 criminal illegal immigrants held in state facilities. No response was received.
ICE continues to demand action from Illinois officials, citing public safety risks tied to uncooperative policies. The agency’s records show that thousands of criminal illegal immigrants remain in state custody, despite repeated requests for their transfer. With no reply from the attorney general’s office, the standoff over enforcement and accountability remains unresolved.
