Icebreakers'26 Festival Unites Innovators for Tech-Driven Business Growth

The main goal of Icebreakers'26 is to foster the involvement of students and other stakeholders in entrepreneurship with the help of inspiration, knowledge, and practical tools. The festival serves as a bridge between academia, the business sector, and public institutions, building a platform for meaningful cooperation and a pathway towards real-world action.

"Our goal is not only to generate new ideas and knowledge, but to help to turn them into practical solutions that benefit society. Innovation is valuable when it has a long-term impact and can attract both investors and industry partners. So we're creating an environment where students, researchers, and entrepreneurs work closely together, enabling ideas to evolve into sustainable startups more quickly and shaping the next generation of innovators," said Enno Ence, Vice-Rector for Development at the University of Latvia.

The festival programme will showcase inspiring stories and include panel discussions during which industry leaders and experts will share insights into technology, innovation, and business development. Students will learn how to build interdisciplinary teams and leverage resources available through various cooperation partners, enhancing the potential for their ideas to become real projects.

At the same time, the festival will provide entrepreneurs with a platform to discover new talent, promising ideas, and opportunities for further growth. This year, the festival will focus on information and communication technologies, examining them in a broader business and innovation context.

The festival's centrepiece will be the business idea competition in which the authors of the most promising ideas will compete for a €10,000 grant to develop their business.

Festival attendees will have the chance to explore various companies, organisations, and solutions in the exhibition area and technology demonstrations. In turn practical workshops and masterclasses will provide participants with opportunities to work in depth on developing ideas and skills. They will also have access to a networking point designed to facilitate the formation of new teams, collaborations, and partnerships, as well as guided tours of UL's OpenLab, enabling them to explore infrastructure and resources for testing and implementing ideas.

Participation in the festival and the idea competition is free of charge, though prior registration is required. More details: https://icebreakers.lu.lv/
