Icelandair secures a new Airbus flight simulation equipment

Icelandair has taken a significant step forward in the development of its pilot training processes with the introduction of a new Airbus flight simulator in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. This addition marks the third Airbus simulator in the town, allowing the airline to conduct more training locally rather than abroad.

The new simulator is designed to optimize and develop pilot training, particularly for type rating training, a mandatory program pilots must complete before operating a specific aircraft model. Each pilot requires at least 40 hours on the simulator for certification, in addition to recurrent training four times a year.

One of the key benefits of the new simulator is the cost reduction and operational efficiency it brings. Previously, Airbus simulator training had to be conducted abroad, incurring higher expenses and logistical complexity. With the simulator now located in Hafnarfjörður, these costs are significantly reduced, and training operations are streamlined.

The new simulator also enhances accessibility for pilots. With three simulators now in Iceland, the airline can train more pilots simultaneously and maintain high training standards close to home. This increased capacity is essential for meeting the demands of Icelandair's growing operations.

CAE Icelandair Flight Training, a subsidiary of Icelandair, is responsible for managing the new Airbus flight simulator. Ásgeir Bjarni Lárusson serves as the Managing Director of CAE Icelandair Flight Training.

In conclusion, the new Airbus simulator represents a strategic advancement for Icelandair by enabling efficient, cost-effective, and locally accessible pilot training. This is crucial for maintaining safety and operational readiness, ensuring that Icelandair continues to provide reliable and high-quality services to its passengers.

The new Airbus simulator, managed by CAE Icelandair Flight Training, will facilitate not only efficient and cost-effective pilot training for Icelandair but also enhance accessibility within the industry. With the addition of this simulator, the finance department is anticipated to experience savings due to reduced expenses and logistical complexity associated with training abroad, while the technology-driven training solutions will further advance Icelandair's aerospace operations.
