Iconic Swiss mattress brands Superba and Swissflex face collapse amid wage crisis
Swiss mattress brands Superba and Swissflex face imminent closure due to the financial struggles of their operator, Aquinos Bedding Switzerland AG. An investor has shown interest in taking over the companies, while employees grapple with months of unpaid wages. The situation has drawn the attention of the Lucerne public prosecutor's office.
Aquinos Bedding Switzerland AG, currently insolvent, has been unable to pay wages to its employees since June 2023. The company's financial woes have led to a significant order backlog for Aquinos Switzerland alone, amounting to over five million Swiss francs by December 2024. However, production has ceased due to insufficient funds for raw materials and components.
The lack of transparency in cash flows between the parent company and subsidiary has added to the management's difficulties in Switzerland. An employee has set a personal deadline of February 2026 to find a solution, after which they may leave the company. Thousands of end customers and hundreds of trading partners have been affected, left without ordered goods due to management issues in Portugal.
An investor has expressed interest in taking over Superba and Swissflex, offering a potential lifeline for the struggling brands. Meanwhile, the Lucerne public prosecutor's office is investigating a complaint related to the situation at Aquinos Bedding Switzerland AG. The future of the company and its employees hangs in the balance as they await a resolution.
