Illinois Celebrates Thousands of Adoptions as ISP Investigates Squad Car Incident
Illinois is set to celebrate Adoption Day later this month, with courtrooms across the state opening to finalize adoptions. Last year, nearly 2,500 children found their forever homes through adoption. Meanwhile, Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating an incident where an ISP squad car was sideswiped in Peoria County during a traffic stop.
The upcoming Adoption Day celebrations mark a significant milestone for the thousands of children in care. As of last year, 2,443 youth had a permanency goal of adoption. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has played a part in supporting these adoptions. He recently secured a permanent injunction from a Rhode Island federal district court against the U.S. Department of Transportation. This injunction prevents the department from imposing immigration enforcement requirements for billions of dollars in federal funding.
In other news, Illinois was awarded over $2 billion in DOT funds last year. However, the state has faced challenges with the department's policies. The ISP has suffered 13 Move Over Law-related crashes this year, including the recent incident in Peoria County. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident.
Illinois is preparing to celebrate Adoption Day, with thousands of children finding loving homes. The state continues to work towards improving safety on its roads, despite challenges posed by federal policies. The ISP remains committed to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring the safety of both its officers and the public.
