In less than a day, more than 200 drones were taken down as they traversed the Russian skies.

From 3 PM to 6 PM (Moscow time), an estimated 35 Ukrainian drones of airplane-type were neutralized by Russia's active air defense units, claims the Russian Ministry of Defense, during that specific period.

Russian UAVs Neutralized in Massive Numbers Overnight and During the Day

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the shooting down of 224 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Russian regions between last night and the first half of today. This number surpasses the total number of UAVs reported to have been shot down during the entire previous day.

During the first half of the day, air defense systems neutralized an additional 65 aerial vehicles. The locations where these UAVs were shot down were not provided in the report, but they may include the Black Sea, Krasnodar Krai, Bryansk region, Kaluga region, and Moscow region. Four unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down over the Black Sea, nine over the Bryansk region, and two over the Kaluga region. One unmanned aerial vehicle was also shot down over the Moscow region.

Overnight, 97 UAVs were destroyed over Russian regions. The Russian Ministry of Defense did not specify the exact time frame for the events during the first half of the day.

The most serious attack occurred in the Krasnodar Krai, where 19 aerial vehicles were neutralized.

The Ministry of Defense also reported the shooting down of 35 Ukrainian UAVs between 15:30 and 18:00 Moscow time.

Between mid-July and mid-August 2025, Ukrainian air defenses have been actively engaging drones launched from multiple Russian regions. In July, Russia launched a record 6,129 Shahed-type drones against Ukraine. On the night of July 20-21, Ukrainian forces shot down about 200 Shahed-type drones and 203 decoy drones from Russian launches. On the night of August 17-18, Ukrainian air defenses neutralized 88 out of 140 Russian drones launched, with strikes targeting northern, southern, eastern, and central Ukraine.

These figures show hundreds of Ukrainian UAVs shot down in major drone waves during late July and mid-August 2025, with contested airspace spanning large parts of eastern, central, and southern Ukraine. Combat actions have occurred over Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and other oblasts.

  1. The shooting down of these UAVs indicates potential disruptions in the aerospace industry and finance, as the industry relies heavily on drone technology for surveillance and delivery operations.
  2. With such a large number of UAVs being neutralized, there could be significant implications for the Russian defense and finance sectors, as UAVs are often used for reconnaissance and offensive operations in the context of conflicts.
