India and Kuwait forge a stronger alliance in defence and trade
India and Kuwait are deepening their long-standing partnership, moving into a new era of cooperation across defence, trade, and technology. Recent developments, including high-level visits and joint military exercises, highlight the growing ties between the two nations. Both countries now aim to expand collaboration in areas like maritime security, renewable energy, and healthcare.
The relationship between India and Kuwait has strengthened over decades, marked by key diplomatic moments. In 2006, Kuwait’s late Amir visited India, followed by the Indian Vice President’s trip to Kuwait in 2009. A major milestone came in 2021 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit led to the signing of a Defence Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), laying the foundation for closer military ties.
The growing India-Kuwait relationship now spans defence, trade, and technology. With stronger military ties, joint exercises, and shared economic interests, the two countries are building on decades of friendship. The recent visit of ICGS Sarthak and ongoing collaborations signal a deeper, more strategic partnership in the years to come.
