India, Bhutan Boost Judicial Ties: Supreme Court Offers Internships to Bhutanese Law Students
The Chief Justice of India, B R Gavai, recently visited Bhutan, where he announced a significant initiative to boost ties between the Indian and Bhutanese judiciaries. During his trip, he met with high-ranking officials and discussed ways to enhance cooperation.
CJI Gavai's visit culminated in an announcement that the Supreme Court of India will offer annual positions for legal interns to Bhutanese law students. This move aims to strengthen academic engagement and professional collaboration between the two judiciaries.
The CJI discussed various avenues for cooperation, including technology integration, capacity building, and knowledge exchange. He met with Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechen Wangchuck and Chief Justice of Bhutan, Justice Norbu Tshering, to explore these possibilities.
In addition to these meetings, CJI Gavai interacted with students and faculty at the JSW School of Law in Bhutan. He emphasized the importance of compassion, wisdom, and ethical responsibility within legal education during his address to the students.
CJI Gavai's visit to Bhutan has laid the groundwork for closer ties between the Indian and Bhutanese judiciaries.
