India boosts LPG production by 31% to meet rising household demand

India's oil marketing companies have boosted domestic LPG production by 31% compared to last year. The increase comes as household demand rises, but officials confirm there is no immediate shortage. Authorities are now taking steps to ensure smooth distribution and prevent misuse of cooking gas supplies.

The surge in production follows higher demand from households, increased cooking fuel needs, and expanded refinery capacity. Despite a rise in bookings by consumers, officials state that supplies remain stable. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is closely monitoring the situation to maintain availability.

To ease pressure on LPG stocks, consumers with access to piped natural gas (PNG) are encouraged to switch where possible. The government is also ensuring uninterrupted supply to industries and commercial users, with direct deliveries of commercial cylinders in some states. Enforcement has been tightened to stop hoarding and black marketing. Raids and surprise inspections are being conducted to ensure fair distribution. Household consumers are advised against panic booking and to use digital apps for cylinder orders instead. Authorities have also prioritised the distribution of commercial LPG cylinders to bulk consumers in certain regions. This move aims to support industries while maintaining adequate stocks for domestic use.

The 31% increase in LPG production has strengthened supplies across the country. With stricter enforcement and targeted distribution, the government is working to prevent shortages and ensure fair access. Consumers are urged to follow guidelines to help maintain steady availability of cooking gas.
