India hikes print ad rates by 26% to support struggling newspapers
The Indian government has raised advertisement rates for print media by 26%. The new pricing will take effect from November 2025. The move aims to help newspapers struggling with higher costs and competition from digital platforms.
Under the revised rates, black-and-white ads in daily newspapers with over one lakh copies in circulation will now cost Rs 59.68 per square centimetre. This marks an increase from the previous rate of Rs 47.40. The adjustment applies specifically to government advertisements.
The rate hike comes as part of broader efforts to sustain the print media industry. With the new pricing structure, publishers will receive increased income from government ads starting late next year. The policy change directly addresses financial pressures in the sector.
