India, Indonesia Strengthen Defence Ties: Liaison Officer, Brahmos Missile Deal in Focus
General Anil Chauhan, India's Chief of Defence Staff, recently concluded a visit to Indonesia from 26-31 October 2025. The trip aimed to strengthen defence ties between the two comprehensive strategic partners.
The visit followed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to India in January 2025, where defence and security cooperation were key topics. During his stay, General Chauhan engaged in discussions with Indonesian military leaders and defence industry stakeholders.
One significant outcome was Indonesia's agreement to position an International Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram. This move will enhance cooperation and information sharing between the two nations in the critical Indian Ocean region.
Indonesia is also considering the purchase of the Brahmos cruise missile, a high-speed, precision-strike weapon system. This potential acquisition could further bolster defence ties and signal Indonesia's commitment to strengthening its military capabilities.
General Chauhan's visit to Indonesia has yielded positive results, with both nations committed to deepening their defence cooperation. The positioning of an International Liaison Officer at the IFC-IOR and Indonesia's interest in the Brahmos cruise missile system reflect the growing strategic partnership between India and Indonesia.
