India, Romania Agree to Facilitate 30,000 Skilled Professionals' Annual Migration

In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, recently visited Bucharest. His discussions with Minister of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity, Petre-Florin Manole, focused on facilitating skilled Indian professionals' movement to Romania.

The two nations have agreed to establish a pathway for around 30,000 Indian professionals to migrate annually, addressing Romania's sectoral labour market demands. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), serving as the official liaison partner, will work with the Romanian government to recognize these professionals' qualifications.

Romania, currently in need of about 100,000 non-EU workers annually, stands to benefit from this arrangement. The countries also explored the possibility of a Totalization (Social Security) Agreement, further streamlining the process for professionals moving between the two nations. Additionally, officials from both sides have been tasked with investigating the mutual recognition of qualifications, paving the way for smoother professional mobility.

The agreement between India and Romania is set to boost skilled Indian professionals' access to Romanian job markets, with the NSDC playing a crucial role in facilitating this movement. Both nations aim to foster closer ties through this arrangement, with discussions ongoing regarding a Totalization Agreement and mutual recognition of qualifications.
