Indian student dies in tragic Germany apartment fire days before homecoming
A 25-year-old Indian student, Hruthik Reddy, died in a fire accident in Germany on December 31. The blaze broke out at his residence in Brandenburg, near Berlin, and spread rapidly through his apartment. Reddy, originally from Telangana, had been pursuing a master’s degree in Germany since mid-2023.
Reddy was inside his apartment when the fire erupted. To escape the flames, he jumped from an upper floor but suffered severe head injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died during treatment.
The incident occurred just days before Reddy was due to visit his hometown in Telangana for Sankranti in mid-January. He had graduated from Vaagdevi College of Engineering in 2022 before moving to Germany in June 2023 to study at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Potsdam. German authorities, including the local police and public prosecutor’s office, have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, Reddy’s family has asked the Indian Embassy in Germany and the Ministry of External Affairs for assistance in repatriating his remains.
The investigation into the fire continues as Reddy’s family awaits the return of his body. Authorities in Germany are examining the circumstances that led to the blaze. Reddy’s death has left his community in Telangana and his academic peers in mourning.
