Indian teen kidnapped by police and falsely charged with drug smuggling

An 18-year-old student was kidnapped by police in Madhya Pradesh and falsely accused of drug smuggling. The teenager, arrested in August 2025, was later granted bail after the High Court ruled he had been framed. Six officers involved in the operation have now been suspended pending an investigation by the supreme court.

The incident began when officers from Malhargarh police station forcibly removed the teenager from a bus. They claimed to have found 2.7 kg of opium in his possession and registered a case while he was already in illegal custody.

The High Court’s ruling exposed a case of wrongful arrest and fabrication of evidence. The six suspended officers now face disciplinary action, while the student remains free on bail. The inquiry by the supreme court will determine further consequences for those involved.
