India's Defence Minister Praises 'Operation Sindoor' as Symbol of Nation's Power
India's Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, has lauded 'Operation Sindoor', a lesser-known military exercise, as a testament to the country's determination and prowess. The operation, not to be confused with other operations like 'Sunrise' or 'Sudarshan Shakti', sent a clear message about India's readiness to face challenges in the modern warfare landscape.
Singh highlighted that modern warfare is heavily reliant on technology and intelligence. He stressed the importance of protecting against adversaries' advanced technologies and bolstering India's capabilities in these areas. The Indian Navy, which has played a leading role in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), has deployed ships, submarines, and aircraft on an unprecedented scale in the past six months. This presence has brought comfort to friendly nations and unease to those seeking to disrupt the region.
The Defence Minister also underscored the significance of a self-reliant Navy, stating that it is the cornerstone of a confident and powerful nation. In the last decade, nearly 67 per cent of the Indian Navy's capital acquisition contracts have been awarded to Indian industries, demonstrating the Navy's commitment to domestic manufacturing and self-reliance. Furthermore, the Indian Navy has facilitated safe passage for approximately 335 merchant vessels, carrying around 1.2 million metric tons of cargo with a trade value of $5.6 billion.
Operation Sindoor, though not one of the world's large-scale military exercises, has been praised by the Defence Minister as a symbol of India's willpower and capability. The Indian Navy's leadership in the IOR, coupled with its commitment to self-reliance and facilitating safe trade, reflects India's growing confidence and influence in the region.
