India's Finance Ministers Push for Digital Empowerment and Regional Growth
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently held discussions with senior officials and representatives to strengthen vital sectors and advance digital empowerment in India.
The meeting, which included officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Communications, and state governments, aimed to bolster growth and innovation. Key areas of focus were capex priorities for the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region, and India Post Office.
Notably, the ministry's expenditure on projects in the northeast reached Rs 3,447.71 crore in FY 2024-25, a significant 74.4% increase from the previous year and over 200% growth in three years. Ministers Scindia and Sitharaman explored strategies to accelerate digital infrastructure development and enhance regional connectivity.
The discussions, involving high-level government officials and representatives, centred around boosting vital sectors and digital empowerment. With a focus on capex priorities and digital infrastructure, the ministers aim to drive growth and enhance connectivity, as evident in the substantial increase in northeast projects' expenditure.
