India’s startup boom hits 2 lakh ventures with record 2025 growth
India’s startup ecosystem has seen rapid growth, with over 2 lakh government-recognised ventures now operating across the country. The surge includes a record 44,000 new startups in 2025 alone—the highest yearly increase since the Startup India initiative launched in 2016.
The Startup India programme continues to drive innovation and economic activity. Recognised startups have filed over 16,400 patent applications, reflecting a strong focus on research and development. Financial backing has also expanded, with the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) approving Rs 585 crore for more than 3,200 applications through incubators.
With over 2 lakh recognised startups and a surge in job creation, India’s entrepreneurial landscape is expanding at an unprecedented pace. The combination of financial schemes, patent filings, and inclusive leadership points to a maturing ecosystem. As funding and support structures strengthen, the sector is poised for further development in the coming years.
