Influencer booked for defamation after video targeting Indore MP Shankar Lalwani
A social media influencer from Uttar Pradesh is facing legal trouble after posting a video about an MP. Jatin Shukla was summoned by Indore police following a complaint over his remarks about Shankar Lalwani. An FIR was filed against him under charges of intimidation, defamation, and public mischief.
The case began when Shukla uploaded a video criticising MP Shankar Lalwani over contaminated water in Indore's Bhagirathpura area. He allegedly used derogatory language and made defamatory claims. A representative of Lalwani then filed a formal complaint, prompting police action.
On March 13, 2026, Indore police registered an FIR against Shukla under sections 351, 356, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include criminal intimidation, defamation, and public mischief. Authorities summoned Shukla for questioning, and he appeared before the Crime Branch. During his statement, Shukla claimed his remarks were unintentional and offered an apology. Despite this, officers seized his mobile phone for forensic analysis. He was later released on notice while the investigation into digital evidence continues.
The probe remains ongoing as police examine Shukla's video and digital records. His apology did not prevent the seizure of his phone, and further legal steps may follow. The case highlights the potential consequences of online statements about public figures.
