Influenza A outbreak strains Aktobe’s hospitals as cases surge among children

Local health authorities have confirmed 11 cases of influenza A this autumn, causing concern in the community. The infectious disease hospital in Aktobe is struggling to cope, with 20 patients, mostly children under five, admitted daily.

The hospital is currently operating at 90% capacity, with 125 beds occupied out of 138. High-risk groups, such as minors, pregnant women, and the elderly, are prioritized for hospitalization. However, the outbreak has also led to a significant drop in school attendance, with nearly half of students staying home in some classes. All patients exhibit similar symptoms: high fever, coughing, and shortness of breath.

Health authorities have issued guidelines to combat the spread. They advise wearing masks in public, getting vaccinated, and regularly ventilating indoor spaces. Despite the outbreak, there are no reports of sanitäre and epidemiological control organizations in Astana expressing concern about new viruses or prolonged fever cases in that city.

The influenza A outbreak is putting pressure on local healthcare services, with the infectious disease hospital in Aktobe at near full capacity. While health authorities provide guidance to prevent the spread, the situation highlights the importance of vigilance and adherence to public health advice.
