Intentionally violating traffic rules using the State Flag - police stopped 82 cases of gross violations
Kazakhstan’s Interior Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law after recent incidents involving the misuse of the national flag. Authorities clarified that penalties were issued only for traffic violations, not for displaying the flag itself. The ministry also confirmed disciplinary action against officers who acted improperly during enforcement.
Police recorded 82 cases of serious traffic violations linked to the improper use of the national flag. While citizens were fined for breaching road rules, no penalties were applied for simply displaying the flag on vehicles. The ministry stressed that the flag holds sacred significance and must be treated with respect.
In Almaty and Shymkent, eight police officers faced disciplinary measures for misconduct during these incidents. Four of them were dismissed from their positions. The ministry assured that any violations—whether by citizens or officials—would result in appropriate legal consequences. No specific authority has formally complained about the 82 documented cases. However, the ministry reiterated that all citizens must comply with traffic regulations, even when displaying national symbols.
The Interior Ministry’s response highlights strict enforcement of traffic laws while protecting the right to use the national flag. Disciplinary actions against officers underscore accountability within law enforcement. The measures aim to balance respect for state symbols with fair and consistent legal standards.
