Iran Declines Egypt's Summit Invitation, Rejects Abraham Accords
Iran has declined Egypt's invitation to participate in the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit, aimed at solidifying the Gaza ceasefire. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that Iran could join the Abraham Accords. Iran's stance on the matter remains clear and consistent.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has made it clear that Iran will not participate in any event where it would have to engage with counterparts who have targeted or threatened it. This includes the recent Sharm El-Sheikh Summit on Gaza's ceasefire. Iran favours diplomatic engagement but only with those who respect its sovereignty.
Iran's stance on the Abraham Accords is equally firm. Araghchi has stated that these agreements have no alignment with the ideals of the Islamic Revolution or the Iranian nation. Iran does not recognise Israel and has reservations about the two-state solution for Palestine. Iran welcomes any initiative that ends Israel's military occupation of Gaza and ensures the expulsion of occupation forces.
Iran's decision to decline Egypt's invitation to the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit and its rejection of the Abraham Accords reflect its commitment to its principles and its refusal to engage with those who threaten or sanction it. Iran continues to favour diplomatic engagement but only with those who respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
